As of January 1, 2004, wood treated with CCA (chromate copper arsenate), has been phased out for consumer use. ACQ (alkaline copper quart) and CA (copper azole) are the newest formulations used for treating wood against termite damage and dry rot. The EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) has approved all treatment methods for safe usage in residential applications. The saw dust from cutting pressure treated wood should not be inhaled or ingested.  In addition, wood alternative and composite decking materials have become consumer favorites. Popular wood alternatives include cedar and tropical hardwoods.
